Well-respected legal aid organization seeks a full-time staff attorney to represent clients in the following areas of law: eviction, sealing and expungement of criminal records, and public benefits (e.g. Social Security, SNAP, etc.). Candidates may express a preference for certain areas of law, subject to the office's needs. This staff attorney will provide zealous representation in litigation, applicable mediation programs, and/or administrative hearings. Specific responsibilities include: all elements of litigation including client interviewing, investigation, discovery, pleadings, briefs, and representation at hearings at trial level and appellate level if appropriate; actively participate in community outreach and education; and building relationships with community partners. Qualified candidates will have: 2 + years of experience in legal aid (preferred), civil litigation, criminal defense, public benefits, and/or landlord/tenant law; a strong commitment to social and racial justice; excellent verbal, analytical, writing, and organization skills; a demonstrated ability to build relationships and work with people of diverse social, economic, and racial/ethical backgrounds, an ability to supervise law students, support staff, and volunteers; and reliable transportation/valid driver's license/car insurance. IL license (or requisite credentials for reciprocity).
