Since 1994, the Commercial Law Committee of the Missouri Bar, through a special selection subcommittee consisting of past recipients and attorneys representing different geographical areas throughout the state in a variety of practice sizes, each year presents the Roser award to an attorney who manifests the highest standard of excellence in bankruptcy practice, who contributes distinctively to the development and appreciation of bankruptcy law, and who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of bankruptcy practice or administration. The award is named in honor of the late Michael R. Roser, a prominent Kansas City bankruptcy lawyer.
Erlene W. Krigel has been chosen to receive the 2022 Michael R. Roser Excellence in Bankruptcy Award.
In 1979, Erlene W. Krigel and her husband Sanford Krigel started the law firm of Krigel &
Krigel, P.C., which is located in Kansas City, Missouri. The firm presently has thirteen attorneys. Erlene's practice focuses on bankruptcy (Chapters 7, 11, 12 and 13), workouts, debtor/creditor rights, commercial litigation, and commercial transactions. Erlene graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Arizona and obtained her J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. She is an AV rated lawyer with Martindale Hubbell. She is admitted to practice in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Western Disfrict of Missouri and the District of Kansas, the Bankruptcy Appellate Panels for the Eighth Circuit and the Tenth Circuit, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Erlene has served as a member of the Attorney Advisory Group for the Western District of Missouri Bankruptcy Court which advises the Court on matters of practice and procedure. She has spoken at seminars and prepared materials for the Missouri Bar and the Volunteer Attorney Project with Legal Aid of Western Missouri on bankruptcy issues. Erlene served as a Chapter 7 panel trustee from 1985 until 2018.
She is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute. Previously, she was a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees.
Erlene served as a past President of the board of trustees and is a current board frustee for the
University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Foundation. She serves on the Justice for All
Committee for Legal Aid of Westem Missouri. She received the Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award in 2005 and her firm received the same award in 2015. Erlene is a past President and board member of Jewish Family Services.
The award will be presented at the Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 7, 2022.
