The BAMSL Membership Committee is hosting a social and networking event at the Plaza Six for members from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 27. This is a members-only event. Appetizers, drinks, golf simulator, and other games provided.

Pleadings are again becoming understandable to everyone, not just insiders. As a result, journalists can fairly report on cases, interested persons can monitor cases, and researchers and historians will be able to use court records and opinions as source materials in the same way as has been done for centuries.

For lawyers, their burden of redacting names from all pleadings and exhibits has been relieved. They and court clerks can go back to business as normal.

The St. Louis region had a significant shift in legal education leadership in 2024 with the appointment of two new law school deans, both women, who are taking the helm at the St. Louis-based law schools after the long tenures of their predecessors. This change reflects broader trends in the legal profession, where diversity and gender equity are increasingly prioritized. These leaders have brought fresh perspectives, leadership styles, and a commitment to shaping the future of law in St. Louis.

NEA’s Read Across America Day, the nation’s largest celebration of reading, expects more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.

The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) Women in the Legal Profession (WILP) Section welcomes women law students to apply for the Doris Banta Memorial WILP Scholarship. The deadline to apply is February 14.

Doris Banta was a trailblazing attorney who excelled academically, becoming one of the first women to serve as a law review editor in the United States at Cornell University. After her admission to The Missouri Bar in 1946, she built a distinguished career, including roles as General Counsel and Vice President of the St. Louis County Water Company, inspiring generations of women attorneys.
