For those who do not regularly practice in this area, their complexity, nuance and, at times, lack of apparent structure, can make these cases seem like an enigma. This article explains, at a high level, how mass tort cases are consolidated, which is often the beginning step in the litigation.

As we close out the 150-year anniversary of BAMSL, it is both fitting and timely to recognize the contributions of our longest-living Past President, Jim McDaniel. Appropriately, Mr. McDaniel was President when BAMSL began planning its centennial celebration in 1974, playing an integral role in organizing those historic events. Some may recall Executive Director Lee Hamilton, who worked alongside Centennial Committee Chair Wayne Millsap.

Please join BAMSL's St. Louis Attorneys Against Hunger and LGBTQ+ Committees as we participate in a food packing event on Saturday, January 25th between 8:00am and 12:00pm at Food Outreach, 3117 Olive St, St. Louis, MO 63103.  Space is limited, so please register early.  You will be required to sign Food Outreach's volunteer waiver form (sent at a later date).  Food Outreach's mission is to provide nutritional support and enhance the quality of life of men, women and children living with HIV or cancer.

This article is likely to be published after the November General Election, but I am writing it before. As you know, there are a significant number of judges that are going to be on the ballot for retention. Many of you, as lawyers, may have been asked for recommendations on how your friends and family should vote. I would not recommend the method of a good friend of mine who said “I just vote to retain the judges with Irish last names!” It is important to also recognize that a recent decision by the Missouri Supreme Court regarding ballot access, created renewed interest in the Missouri Court Plan. I want to take some time to remind people what the Missouri Non-Partisan Court Plan is and how it contributes to a well-respected and independent judiciary. (Well, as independent as you can get with appointed judges).
