The St. Louis Bar Journal, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis’ (BAMSL) quarterly scholarly publication, is seeking proposals from parties interested in serving as Editor-in-Chief. This is a voluntary position that would work in conjunction with BAMSL’s Staff in producing the four issues a year.

The position is responsible for an editorial vision that fulfills BAMSL members’ informational and educational needs through the production of the Journal. The Editor shall be responsible for selecting topics and authors as well as editing content.

The Editor-in-Chief will also collaborate with the BAMSL staff in developing the overall layout and design, and ensuring the quality of the content. BAMSL’s in-house graphic designer will do the actual layout and design with input from the Editor-in-Chief.

In submitting a proposal to become Editor-in-Chief, BAMSL welcomes presentations that demonstrate a creative vision for modernization as well as utilization of various digital and alternative platforms to make the Journal more accessible and appeal to a wider base of readers and advertisers.

Basic Qualifications
- Possession of a law degree from an ABA-accredited Law School
- Current knowledge of legal trends in a wide range of legal fields
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- BAMSL Membership or statement of intent to join BAMSL

Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Experience in editing a scholarly journal
- Authorship of at least one scholarly legal article
- Experience in magazine layout and design

Proposals should be no longer than 4 pages in length and should include a resume/CV as well as a description of the editorial vision for the Journal. Each proposal shall highlight previous editorial experience.

Proposals must be submitted by April 3, 2020, via email to ssagarra@bamsl.org.

The final candidate selection will be made by the Board of the Bar Association and potential candidates may be selected for one or more interviews.
