Message from 2016-2017 President Eric Kukowski
Stepping up to the Plate
I want to offer you a look into my life, and provide you with a road map for the future of the Association (or for the next year) and your assistance in making my dream for the 2016-2017 bar year come to fruition.
Some background. I am a New Jersey transplant, graduate of St. Louis University School of Law, and resident of Highland, Illinois. So how does a first generation attorney, born and raised in New Jersey, find his way to St. Louis to practice law and eventually be given this opportunity? The answer is simple, by the simple kindness of family, friends, and colleagues. And in the forefront of this was BAMSL. This Association welcomed me as a Member of the Missouri Bar, and more specifically, St. Louis Bar. It is through this Association that I have made lifetime friends, met amazing talented people, and grew a practice that allows me to support my family and give back to this community.
And it is this opportunity, the Presidency of BAMSL that now provides the forum to ask of you, its great members to come along on this year long journey with me to help those in the Metropolitan St. Louis community that need it most. This year will be a "YEAR of SERVICE" for BAMSL. While the Association’s members perform many acts of charity and service for the Community, I am going to ask each of you do more as I know, we can. Lawyers are special people, given unique obligations and opportunities to help others. It is a drive that extends to all of our diverse practices, whether it be litigation, transactional, or formational. And it is this obligation and opportunity that I want to focus and channel for the upcoming year.
BAMSL has strong community service programs and I am excited that the it's going to take the next step. Last bar year, under President Seth Albin, we formed a Pro Bono Taskforce to look at the all of the Pro Bono legal needs in the Community. This taskforce will continue. I envision BAMSL as a hub for all of the different Pro Bono associations in the Metropolitan St. Louis area. More details will follow, but it is my dream to have all outside organizations call on BAMSL and its members to fulfill these legal needs. With your cooperation and assistance, we can and will make our community better.
So, let me end by writing THANK YOU. THANK YOU for being members of this Association, for the kind words of encouragement and advice, for your support and participation (in the past and the future) in this amazing Association. THANK YOU for being leaders in the St. Louis Metropolitan community and to your families for the sacrifices you make to ensure we all live in a better world. And speaking of families, THANK YOU to my wife Heidi and my son Samuel for agreeing to come on this journey with me and the sacrifices it entails. THANK YOU as well to my firm, Evans & Dixon, LLC for their support of me and the firm's commitment to BAMSL.
I would also be remiss if I didn't thank Seth Albin, Immediate Past-President of BAMSL, for so capably leading this organization and being a friend, mentor, and guide. THANK YOU to the existing Executive Board and Board of Governors for an incredible year. THANK YOU to our Executive Director, Zoe Linza and her tireless staff for keeping this organization moving forward and helping me accomplish my goals for the Association. THANK YOU to the incoming Executive Board: Ed Dowd, President-Elect, John Simon, Vice President, the Honorable Kendra Howard, Secretary, Sara Neill, Treasurer, and Jason Sengheiser, ABA Delegate and Board of Governors for all of the work you have done and will do in the upcoming year.
2016-2017 BAMSL President
