ChatGPT has proven it cannot be trusted to accurately perform legal research and analysis. SCOTUSblog put ChatGPT’s knowledge to the test by designing a 50-question test. ChatGPT provided correct responses to only 21 questions. Its errors included misstating basic facts, adding fictional details to otherwise correctly answered questions, claiming the nonexistent Justice James F. West was impeached in 1933, incorrectly claiming Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote a dissent to Obergefell, and maintaining the court’s junior justices’ duties included maintaining the grounds and building.

In her final notes, Justice Kagan emphasized the danger in the Court deciding this case on the merits.50 The key issue to the majority concerned “who has the authority” to make such critical decisions. For Justice Kagan, “the answer, as is now becoming commonplace … this Court.” This decision obstructs the ability of Congress to delegate broadly and make policy decisions best for the public. Congress often delegates its power to agencies because of a lack of resources, changing circumstances, efficiency, and more. “This Court now won’t let it reap the benefits of that choice.”

The 22nd Circuit Court is seeking applicants for a contract attorney position to provide legal representation for defendant’s initial appearances related to Rule 33.01 and/or 33.05, as appointed. The Veterans Committee’s goal is to educate attorneys on issues that veterans face within the legal system and to connect those interested in helping veterans generally. The Veteran’s Committee is open to veterans and non-veterans and attorneys and non-attorneys alike.  We encourage anyone who is interested in learning more or helping those who’ve served this Nation, please register on BAMSL’s website. The Veteran’s Committee meets at noon on the third Tuesday of every month.
