How the service works
BAMSL's referral service maintains a listing of attorneys who practice in the metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri-Illinois area. When you contact the BAMSL Lawyer Referral and Information Service, state your problem briefly, giving the particular facts (any information you provide will be held in the strictest confidence). Remember that e-mail, like the telephone and regular mail, is not necessarily secure.

After reviewing your problem, the Service will e-mail you the name of a lawyer near you who practices in your area of need. You will also be sent by US mail a confirmation and statement for $30 which entitles you to up to a one-half hour consultation with the attorney. When you discuss your situation, in person or by phone, it is important that you ask the attorney what his or her fees would be to do any additional work for you.

It will be your responsibility to contact the lawyer to make an appointment. The Service is unable to make appointments for callers or refer you to attorneys outside metropolitan St. Louis. When you call to make your appointment, tell the lawyer that BAMSL's Lawyer Referral and Information Service made the referral.

The Service will also send you a "Client Satisfaction Survey". Please complete the survey and return it to the Service in the postage-free envelope. Your feedback regarding service from the Association staff as well as the attorney will be very helpful as we strive to make this a truly valuable public service. NOTE: For referral to an attorney outside Missouri, go to the ABA's page of lawyer reference services. In Missouri, but outside the St. Louis metropolitan area, contact The Missouri Bar (573-635-4128), Springfield Metropolitan Bar (417-831-2783), or the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar (816-221-9472). Each operates a referral service for their area.
